Guest Speaker: Maria Beers from Double Dutch Landscape Design and Consulting.

‘My talk will be on four season gardening, starting early in the season and keeping it interesting in fall and winter. I will address timing, plant location, color, texture and structure.

There will be lots of time for questions!

WE WILL TALK ABOUT ALL THINGS SEEDS!

• Learn how to start seeds indoors. When? Where? Why? What soil to use?

• Bring you new seed packages tonight! Learn how to read the back instructions!

• Seeding tomatoes, tomatoes and tomatoes! Learn the difference between Determinate/Indeterminate.

• Get those plants started for our upcoming Plant Sale in May! Suggestions for seed starting for the Plant Sale!

• “Grow a Row” for the Parkland Food Bank. A new initiative for members to give back to the community!

We have an incredible line up of speakers covering topics from bringing ecological principles into the garden, the use of IPM in the garden ecosystem and how to incorporate green roof principles into the home landscape. Ice Breaker : Bring Garden produce for Parkland County Food Bank

Guest Speaker: Gary Boehm - Previously of the Homesteader kitchen at the Multicultural Center.

Gary will share with us his knowledge of home canning and other ways to preserve our garden produce.

On Tuesday July 4th, 2023 the Stony Plain Horticultural Society has planned a guided walk (members only), through the Wagner Bog with Interpreter Mr. Dave Ealey.

Start of the walk will be 1.30pm  and will take about 45 min to an hour. There is no charge but if you like to make a donation to the Wagner Bog Society, there is a donation box in the parking lot.

Please confirm via email to sphortsociety@gmail.com if you plan to attend.  Mr. Ealey likes to have about 8-10 people on a guided walk. Therefore, if there are more who registered, Mr. Ealey agreed to do an extra one, just so you will have the benefit of the guided walk. 

We will determine a time for a second walk if the need arises.
